"Winter Light" watercolor by Jenny Liang

Reference photo

This house is just few blocks away from my home and almost every time I do my morning walks, I will pass it. Monday morning, the sky was blue without any clouds and the sun was strongly beamed; when I did my routine walk and I was fascinated by the strong shadows on this house and I ran to home very quickly to get my camera and snapped this photo. Last night after putting kids to bed, I just couldn't wait to paint this house. It took me three hours to finish and I went to bed by one clock in the morning; but I really enjoy painting it. Sometimes I think that how lucky I'm right now, have no regular job, don't need sleep on time...

"Watercolor, Skittles, Initials" 2-25-2012 9-12 yrs old

Inspired by a bag of colorful skittles, this weekend most art class projects were basic on the shapes and colors of the skittles - to create students' initials. We used some watercolor techniques to create the three dimensional shapes of skittle, then we learn to create different colors for each skittles' cast shadows. I did get many positive feedback from students for today's lessons.

It's so amazing that these designs were done by 6 to 8 yrs old group. Today we mainly focus on repeated patterns of basic shapes such as heart, circle, oval, square etc. With limited colors applied on the designs, many pieces are very well done. Unbelievable!
